Some Raw Food Warnings for People with Celiac Disease...
Here, in no specific order, are some warnings about starting a raw food diet for people specifically with Celiac Disease.
First of all, you should know that for the vast majority of people with Celiac Disease a Raw Food lifestyle is a perfect way to manage their CD and live a normal life.
For a very few people with CD, there can be some irritations when switching to raw food after years of abusing your intestines with gluten and undiagnosed CD.
Here are some tips.
If you have a negative reaction, the most important thing is to discover what caused it. It is likely it was one food, not "raw food" in general.
If you recently became gluten free, some rough foods may cause discomfort. Consider the way you consume them. For example you may try:
Chewing the offending food longer in your mouth before swallowing.
Blending the offending food in a smoothie to further break it into smaller, less rough pieces that are easier to pass in your intestines. You may also try blending it with other raw foods that are not bothering you, which will reduce the concentration.
Eliminate grain fiber for a while. Grain fiber is sharper to the intestines than fruit fiber. (Personally, I have stopped eating all grains!)
Try juicing! Juice the offending foods (mix with a blend of non offending foods!)
A few more tips...
Be sure to drink plenty of water! It sounds crazy but I aim for 8 liters (8000ml or 2 gallons) a day! Start with 2 liters on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. Instead of gulping it down, drink 500ml each 10 minutes. Believe me, I drink 5000ml in the first 100 minutes of every day!
You need Vitamin C for healing. I put 568mg of sodium ascorbate (500mg vitamin C) into each 500ml of water and try to get 10-12 grams of Vitamin C in me each day.
Try Ozone Water. Water quality plays an important roll in your healing process. I believe that water with Ozone in it is helping my intestines heal.
Go for a walk. Walking helps move food through your intestines and helps with digestion.
Don't quit! Most raw food that had a negative effect on me at first, later, when my intestines started to heal, actually had a positive effect on me! I have been gluten free for 2 years now, mostly raw food for 6 months. Now I am trying 100% raw! If a food causes you real problems, just don't eat it for a while, say 4-6 weeks. Then try again. It may be six months or a year before you can eat it!
Don't cook! Don't eat! Some people think that if a raw food is offending them they should just cook it. This may actually release toxins that have a worse effect! Like some governments have a policy of "don't ask, don't tell" - I believe in "don't cook, don't eat!" If a raw food offends you, just don't eat it! It is likely you will like it later. However, for now, just avoid it. Remember that cooking it changes it into another kind of poison! Better to just eat whatever raw food you can.
If you do eat something cooked, don't beat yourself up over it. I wish everyone could become instantly 100% raw food. If you have diabetes, you should! But I also know that with Celiac, Diabetes and heart Disease, it took me 2 years to be 100% raw! Just do your best and you will get there!
